Social Value

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering social value alongside our client partnerships, WMS has made a £250 donation to Bristol Dog Action Welfare Group (DAWG).

 The donation forms part of a collaborative initiative linked to refurbishment works delivered across sites in Devon and Somerset. Following the completion of works, our client identifies a local worthy cause that could benefit from additional support, with WMS providing a donation.

On this occasion, Bristol DAWG was selected.

Established as a registered charity in 2010, Bristol DAWG has become a well-established organisation dedicated to caring for and rehoming greyhounds and other sighthounds.

The charity takes in dogs from across the country and Ireland, working with trainers, other rescue centres, council pounds and local dog wardens. Its dedicated trustees and volunteers care for the dogs while they wait to find their new forever homes.

Fundraising plays an important role in allowing Bristol DAWG to continue helping as many dogs as possible, with volunteers regularly giving up their time to support the charity's work.

We're delighted that our latest social value contribution can help support the team and dogs at Bristol DAWG.

The initiative is another example of how WMS works collaboratively with our clients to ensure the positive impact of our projects extends beyond the work itself and into the wider communities we serve.

WMS was delighted to once again sponsor and attend a recent customer fayre, supporting an event that brought residents and the wider community together.

 The event proved another great success, with a fantastic turnout and plenty of people enjoying the activities throughout the day - despite some particularly hot summer weather.

Following the event, WMS received a lovely message of thanks recognising our continued sponsorship and support and the contribution this makes towards the success of the fayre each year.

Supporting community events is an important part of our approach to social value. Alongside the services we deliver, we want to play an active role in the communities in which we work, supporting opportunities that bring people together and create positive experiences for residents.

We're pleased to have played our part in another successful event and look forward to continuing to support initiatives like this in the future.

WMS was delighted to take part in the recent Resident Connect Festival at St Rita’s Centre in Honiton.

 The event brought residents together with contractors and organisations working within their communities, providing an informal opportunity to meet face-to-face, ask questions and learn more about the people and services supporting their homes.

 Members of the WMS team attended with our stand and spent the day speaking with residents, building relationships and taking part in what was a fantastic community event.

Resident engagement is an important part of the way we work. Opportunities like the Resident Connect Festival help ensure our teams remain accessible and approachable while giving residents the chance to engage directly with the people delivering services within their communities.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, spoke with the team and helped make the event such a success.

WMS was delighted to once again support the North Devon Homes Summer Fayre, continuing our long-standing involvement with the event since its very first year.

 Each year the Summer Fayre continues to grow, bringing together residents, partners and the wider community for a fantastic day of activities, entertainment and community spirit. This year's event was no exception, with the WMS stand welcoming a steady stream of visitors throughout the day.

Our competitions, games and giveaways proved as popular as ever, with hundreds of people stopping by to get involved. One of the biggest attractions was our Guess the Sweets competition, alongside our cuddly toy prize draw, both of which received a fantastic response.

The winners of both competitions will be drawn early next week, so a few lucky entrants can expect a welcome phone call very soon.

A huge thank you to everyone who visited our stand and to the WMS team who helped make another successful Summer Fayre possible. We're incredibly proud to have supported this fantastic community event since its inception and are already looking forward to returning next year.

At WMS, we know that strong teams are built both on and off site.

 Earlier this month, colleagues from across our Cornwall office came together for the annual WMS Summer BBQ, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy an early finish, catch up with colleagues and celebrate the hard work that's gone into another busy period.

The event was made possible thanks to the efforts of team members who volunteered their time to organise and cook for everyone, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that was enjoyed across the business. Special thanks go to Tash for organising another successful event, and to Mark for taking on BBQ duties and keeping everyone well fed throughout the afternoon.

The Summer BBQ is a great example of WMS' One Team culture in action. Bringing colleagues together outside of their day-to-day roles helps strengthen relationships, support employee wellbeing, and build the positive working environment that underpins everything we do.

Following the success of this year's event, other WMS offices are already looking at hosting similar get-togethers, helping to share the same team spirit across the wider business.

At WMS, supporting the communities we work in goes beyond the projects we deliver.

 Recently, Ben was on hand to help clear a fallen tree on Muddiford Road, assisting with efforts to remove the obstruction and help make the area safe again.

While it may not have been part of a planned programme of work, actions like these demonstrate the willingness of our teams to step in and help when needed. Small acts of support can make a big difference to local communities and are an important part of the values we promote across the business.

A big thank you to Ben and everyone involved in helping get the road cleared and the area back to normal.

Congratulations to WMS Contracts Manager Craig, who has successfully completed the Dartmoor Prison Break challenge while raising an incredible £1,180 for Cancer Research UK.

 Taking on the challenge in memory of his brother Darren, Craig set off from Dartmoor Prison at midday on Saturday with a simple goal - reach Bodmin Jail on foot within the 24-hour challenge window.

After an overnight effort covering approximately 40 miles, Craig arrived at Bodmin Jail at 4:30am on Sunday morning, completing the challenge and achieving the goal he had set himself.

The challenge has helped raise valuable funds for Cancer Research UK and has received fantastic support from colleagues, friends, family, and the wider community.

Everyone at WMS is incredibly proud of Craig’s achievement and the difference his fundraising will make.

WMS is proud to continue its support of the Chatty Bench initiative through the donation of a new bench for residents in Camborne.

 The initiative aims to encourage conversation, reduce loneliness, and create opportunities for residents to connect with one another in a relaxed and welcoming environment. By providing a simple space to sit and chat, the benches help foster stronger community relationships and support wellbeing.

As part of our ongoing social value commitments, we are committed to supporting projects that create positive impacts beyond the works we deliver. The Chatty Bench initiative is a fantastic example of how small interventions can help bring people together and strengthen local communities.

We hope the new bench will be enjoyed by residents for years to come.

WMS was proud to attend and support the recent Community Day held alongside Cornwall Housing Ltd at Rosedale Recreational Ground.

 The event brought together residents from the local community alongside organisations and service providers for a day focused on engagement, support, wellbeing, and community connection. Running alongside a Football Day hosted by Truro City Council, the event created a fantastic atmosphere and provided opportunities for residents to access advice, ask questions, and learn more about the support services available to them.

For WMS, events like this are an important part of building positive relationships within the communities we work in every day. Taking time to engage directly with residents outside of projects and works helps strengthen trust, communication and long-term community connections.

It was great to see residents, organisations, and volunteers involved in such a positive day for the local area.
