Congratulations to WMS Contracts Manager Craig, who has successfully completed the Dartmoor Prison Break challenge while raising an incredible £1,180 for Cancer Research UK.

Taking on the challenge in memory of his brother Darren, Craig set off from Dartmoor Prison at midday on Saturday with a simple goal - reach Bodmin Jail on foot within the 24-hour challenge window.

After an overnight effort covering approximately 40 miles, Craig arrived at Bodmin Jail at 4:30am on Sunday morning, completing the challenge and achieving the goal he had set himself.

The challenge has helped raise valuable funds for Cancer Research UK and has received fantastic support from colleagues, friends, family, and the wider community.

WMS Supports Community Day with Cornwall Housing Ltd

WMS was proud to attend and support the recent Community Day held alongside Cornwall Housing Ltd at Rosedale Recreational Ground.

The event brought together residents from the local community alongside organisations and service providers for a day focused on engagement, support, wellbeing, and community connection. Running alongside a Football Day hosted by Truro City Council, the event created a fantastic atmosphere and provided opportunities for residents to access advice, ask questions, and learn more about the support services available to them.

For WMS, events like this are an important part of building positive relationships within the communities we work in every day. Taking time to engage directly with residents outside of projects and works helps strengthen trust, communication and long-term community connections.

It was great to see residents, organisations, and volunteers involved in such a positive day for the local area.

WMS Supports Community Connections Through Social Value Programme

WMS is proud to have supported residents at Bishops Court and Westgate Mews through the donation of new benches as part of our ongoing Social Value Programme.

The benches have been installed to provide welcoming spaces for residents to sit, relax, and spend time together - helping encourage stronger community connections and supporting wider wellbeing initiatives.

Alongside the installation, a Chatty Bench plaque has also been added in support of ongoing efforts to tackle loneliness and encourage social interaction, helping create opportunities for residents to connect and enjoy conversations with neighbours.

The unveiling provided a lovely opportunity for residents to come together and enjoy the new addition to their community.

At WMS, we understand that social value goes beyond the work we deliver. Supporting initiatives that create positive, lasting impacts within communities remains an important part of what we do.

Treneere Estate Project Highlighted Within Place-Based Retrofit Discussion

The Treneere Estate project in Penzance has been recognised within wider industry discussions around place-based retrofit and community-focused delivery.
Working through the South West Procurement Alliance framework, WMS delivered retrofit works and improvements to more than 300 homes, while also supporting wider social value outcomes within the local community.
The project focused not only on improving homes, but also on creating opportunities through local employment, apprenticeships, supply chain engagement, and ongoing collaboration with residents and community stakeholders. By working closely with project partners and local groups, the scheme aimed to deliver long-term value alongside physical improvements to homes.
Place-based retrofit approaches are increasingly recognised across the industry as a way of connecting housing improvements with wider community outcomes, local economic growth, and resident engagement. The Treneere Estate project stands as a strong example of that collaborative approach in practice.

Recognising Great Work: Keith Delivers Fence Replacement in Cornwall

At WMS, we’re proud to recognise the people behind the work - and this week, that spotlight is on Keith, a long-standing multi-skilled operative based out of our Cornwall office.

Keith recently completed a 35 metre fence replacement in a rear garden that had been badly affected by storm damage. The site presented a number of challenges, including an exposed elevation and restricted access, which required careful cutting back of trees and vegetation before work could begin.

The replacement fence was installed using a hit and miss treated timber design, providing a more suitable solution for high wind conditions and improving the long-term resilience of the property.

It’s a great example of the skill, experience, and attention to detail our teams bring to every job - and a well-deserved moment of recognition for Keith.
